WHO IS DEE THOMPSON?

Building Trust. Inspiring Accountability. Moving Communities Forward.

Dee Thompson is a speaker, host, convener, advocate, and community engagement strategist who helps schools, nonprofits, and community organizations navigate difficult conversations, strengthen family and community engagement, and build trust across diverse communities. Her approach is rooted in lived experience.

Through years of parent advocacy, community leadership, and community organizing, Dee has experienced firsthand the complexities of organizational power, conflict, exclusion, accountability, and trust. Those experiences taught her that leadership and community engagement are about far more than having a seat at the table. They require the courage to ask difficult questions, the ability to navigate competing perspectives, and a commitment to creating environments where people feel heard, respected, and empowered to participate.

Rather than allowing difficult experiences to define or defeat her, Dee turned them into lessons that continue to shape how she leads, advocates, facilitates conversations, and builds community today. Her work reflects a simple philosophy: experience can become expertise when we are willing to learn from it, grow through it, and use it to create something meaningful.

As the Founder of a New Jersey-based nonprofit, Dee works alongside parents, educators, community leaders, and organizations to strengthen schools and communities through sustainable programming, impactful events, and authentic engagement.

With a background in accounting and a proven record of raising more than $100,000 as a volunteer leader, Dee brings both strategic thinking and practical experience to her work. She is known for asking thoughtful questions, facilitating difficult conversations, connecting people around shared goals, and helping leaders and communities navigate challenges with clarity, courage, and purpose.

Dee has produced impactful community initiatives, including the Snowball Fundraiser Gala, a large-scale fundraising experience designed to expand educational opportunities and support student success. She has also helped build innovative partnerships that connect communities, organizations, and leaders around shared goals.

Among her notable achievements, Dee partnered with Rock & Roll Hall of Fame musicians to launch an innovative music program for middle school students. The collaboration, featured on News12 New Jersey, sparked important conversations about arts access, educational opportunity, community partnerships, and what becomes possible when people come together around a shared purpose.

A writer and thought leader, Dee explores the intersection of people, power, leadership, advocacy, schools, families, civic engagement, equity, and community life. Through her writing, speaking, and convening work, she uses lived experience and current events to examine difficult realities, challenge assumptions, encourage accountability, and identify pathways toward meaningful solutions.

Dee is also the author of Community Impact Events: The Ultimate Planning Guide, a practical resource designed to help leaders move from ideas and conversations to effective action.

Today, Dee brings her experience to conferences, panels, community forums, schools, nonprofits, and live events—delivering keynotes, moderating discussions, and facilitating conversations that encourage people to think critically, engage authentically, and lead with courage.

why i CREATE THESE SPACES

I don’t create spaces for easy conversations — I create them for meaningful ones.

I've learned firsthand what can happen when difficult issues go unaddressed, when people don't feel heard, and when power and relationships influence whose voices are welcomed into the conversation.

That's why I don't create spaces simply to gather people. I create spaces where people can listen, question, reflect, challenge assumptions, and move toward meaningful action.

The issues facing our schools, organizations, and communities are rarely simple. Real progress requires honesty, accountability, empathy, and a willingness to engage with perspectives that may challenge our own.

Whether I'm speaking on a stage, hosting a panel, facilitating a workshop, or convening a community dialogue, my goal is the same: to create environments where meaningful conversation can lead to stronger relationships, greater understanding, and purposeful action.

Because lasting change doesn't happen when we avoid difficult conversations.

It happens when we have them with courage, respect, and purpose.

TURNING EXPERIENCE INTO IMPACT

My work is ultimately about what we choose to do with what we've experienced. Difficult experiences can discourage us—or they can teach us. Conflict can divide us—or reveal what needs to change. Advocacy can create resistance—or open the door to greater accountability. And the experiences that challenge us can become the very experiences that equip us to help someone else.

I choose to turn experience into impact. That is the work. And that is the conversation I invite you to join.
