More About My Journey - And the Conversations That Matter

Hey there! I’m Dee — a proud New Jersey native, community advocate, and writer with a heart for education, equity, and real talk. Whether it’s through volunteering, supporting small businesses, or writing about the issues that matter most, I’m passionate about building stronger communities and sparking meaningful conversations.

What started as a way to express my experiences during a debated volunteer role in 2024 quickly turned into something much bigger. My blog became a platform not just for sharing my unique journey as a school volunteer, former PTA leader, and community partner — but also a space to unpack deeper truths about the systems we navigate and the relationships that shape us.

From the classroom to the community boardroom, I’ve witnessed firsthand how both social issues and personal relationships can impact progress. Whether it’s the way policies affect our families or how misunderstanding between peers holds back collaboration, I believe these are conversations worth having — and I’m not afraid to start them.

I remain committed to uplifting the voices of Black individuals, celebrating our history, and envisioning better futures — all while recognizing the human side of it all: the bonds we build, the tension we work through, and the love that keeps us moving forward. Because real change? It begins with relationships. With understanding. With heart.

Outside of my accounting profession, I continue to support schools and families with initiatives that bring people together — from organizing Montclair school events like Hillside Rocks and Bike & Walk to School Day, to uplifting Black excellence through local celebrations and programs. I've even found the time to spearhead huge collaborative initiatives that created new programs for students. The experiences I’ve gained from these efforts are filled with stories, lessons, and growth that I carry into every post I share with you.

Growth isn’t always easy, and speaking out sometimes comes with pushback. But with each challenge comes clarity — and clarity leads to connection. That’s what this space is all about: truth, community, and the power of honest conversation.
