Hi there! I’m Dee! A New Jersey native, who dedicates a portion of my free time to volunteering, community activism, and writing! Recently embarking on a new journey of written self-expression, creating my blog bas been both fulfilling and empowering to say the least!
Finding myself in the midst of a debated community volunteer role in 2024, the much-appreciated controversy allowed me to speak truth to power by initially writing a series of informative articles based on my volunteer time on the PTA at a local New Jersey middle school. Providing thoughts, facts, and opinions of my time as a school volunteer, PTA President, PTA Vice-President, and community partner, I hold quite a unique vantage point.
I'm a heavy supporter of all things community-related that promote positivity. From supporting new and existing small businesses to staying updated on local, state and nation-wide happenings, I do my best to keep my hand on the pulse!
My passion of exploring ways to improve and support the educational and professional experience of the Black individual is a continued priority. I admire the success of what was once Black Wall Street; the Greenwood district of Tulsa, OK. The History is a phenomenal one and we can only do better when we know better. We must understand who we once were and what we can be.
With a professional background in Accounting, I also practice as a licensed natural hair care specialist and hair braider. But I found my passion in community and school volunteering. I have had the pleasure of connecting with many amazing and dedicated parents and community partners that have helped me lead initiatives such as Welcome Back Hillside featuring Beyond the Boogie Dance Studio, Hillside Rocks Pride Month initiative, Bike Walk to School at Hillside, Hillside Skate Date at Clary Anderson Arena, Glenfield PTA’s Welcome Back Picnics, Greenwood at Glenfield Black History Month event, Montclair Music Night parent-led fundraiser, and the Glenfield Middle School Drumline initiative.
With time comes experience, and with experience comes growth. That growth, combined with the right energy, contributes to an inevitable amount of success and opportunity. Be prepared as the success may bring out some haters. But don't let it get you down. Stay positive, embrace it, and use it as a stepping stone on the way up! And as always, there's plenty of love and support out there to outweigh the rocks in the road. So keep going! There's so much more greatness to come!
